Butterflies and the Power of 15 Minutes

Happy Thursday My Dear Sweet Friends

Boy oh boy is it cold in Vancouver, WA.  I am not ready for winter - that's for sure?  I don't really tolerate the cold anymore - it really makes my fibromyalgia pain even worse (which is hard for me to even imagine as possible).

How has the weather been for you? Warm and sunny?  Cold and rainy??

Its time for the next Speed Challenge and this one is all about Butterflies.  Yep, no such thing as to many Butterflies for me.  Funny part is I did this challenge around November 22nd and I had to wait to share this post.  That's the power of scheduling the post ahead of time (most of it anyway).  So before I get into the specifics of this project I thought I would show you a photo of the finished project.

I have been wanting to make my own set of butterfly coasters and thought it would be a quick easy project for this challenge.  And in my mind its a perfect match.

Supplies:
Plastic Table Cloth (check)
Paper Trimmer (check)
Brayer (check)
Mod Podge (check)
Pattern Cardstock (check)
Tiles (check)
Foam Brush (check)
Stop Watch (check)
Hand Sander (check) - just not in photo
Hubby says: "Ready, set, GO!!!

And then it happened - can you guess what it is??

Waiting...............
(Fingers repeatedly tap tapping on my counter top)

Well you guessed it:

The entire process went without a hitch and you can see the time I had remaining below.

Ooops I lied (not intentionally) there was a little glitch when my hubby had a trigger finger on the stop watch button and pressed it a few moments to early and had to restart it.  (Big SMILE)

To create these coasters all I had to do was find the butterflies I wanted to use and then cut the cardstock (it was from BoBunny - one of my number one favorite paper lines).
Cut four pieces into 4" x 4"
Used mod podge to seal the cardstock to the tiles.
Used brayer to help get out the air bubbles.
Added top coat of mod podge.
Used my secret technique.
After sealing all four tiles I added another top coat.
Used my secret technique.
Walla - Coasters done.

I finally have my own set of butterfly coasters and I love them.  It was still an easy project but it took almost the entire 15 minutes to get them all done.

And so my dear friends - I hope, really really hope you will consider joining in this Butterfly theme Speed Challenge.  It's fun - lots of fun!

It's okay to put aside 15 minutes to create something that is quick and easy and then enjoy all the joy when the project is complete.  And you never know - you might be able to cross one gift off your Christmas list.  And of course, please come and share your fabulous creation with us.

The DT has created some amazing projects to help with getting your creative juices flowing.  We can't wait to see what you create!!!

With love, hugs and smiles

DT - Speed Challenge

(P.S. - I must confess before starting this project I was stressed and tired but decided to do it anyway and at the end I was smiling and relaxed).
Thanks BoBunny.

  3. Love these coasters, Laine! I seriously doubt that I could have gotten them done in 15 minutes. I think I'll have to stick to cards for the speed challenge. :-D

Fight Like A Girl - Pink Power

My blog candy giveaway is under post Challenge #35  Hello dear sweet friends -  I am taking a little detour today from my usual type of post to share something that is near and dear to my heart.  As you are already aware October is Breast Cancer Awareness month.  Well I want to do something to help spread the word about the importance of mammograms.  Believe it or not there are still a lot of women (and men) that we can reach together.   I am a breast cancer survivor and today September 18th  is my six year anniversary.   Six years ago I was driving to work listening to my favorite Christian radio station when there was an advertisement for the "Susan G. Komen 3 day/60 mile breast cancer awareness walk.  At that moment in my heart I knew without a doubt I needed to walk those 60 miles.  Now in all honesty - at the same time I was asking myself questions like - Why on earth do I feel so compelled to walk those 60 miles fo...
