Material Girl - Altered Frame (Magnetic Board)

There is also a GDT and DT call at Re-Cycle, Re-Purpose & Re-Invent.  There is more information on the website.

Hello my Dear Sweet Friends -

I am so incredibly excited to share this project with you today.  I had so much fun creating this altered picture frame.  I created this project for CS Designs for the current challenge called: "Material Girl" at Re-Cycle, Re-Purpose & Re-Invent.

The irony is the more I kept working on it the more ideas I kept having.  Which I have discovered can be a good thing and not such a good thing.  From the beginning I wanted to use fabric as part of my design which I will share more about a little further down this post.  What I have just realized is that I didn't take a photo of the frame that I have altered for this project. (My bad).  It was a 12" x 12" frame I found at a thrift store several months ago.  I also wanted to use fabric (material girl - hint hint) instead of coloring in most of the digital designs from CS Designs.  I love every one of them.

To reinforce the fabric I used cardstock as the backing. And this also means I did a lot of paper piecing.  There was so much cutting I was getting cramps in my right hand (but its back to normal now).  The quote and the rulers are cardstock - everything else is fabric.  And its fabric I have been holding on to for quite a while and I wanted a Shabby Chic sort of feel to the whole piece. The stretch lace I won during a blog challenge and just love it.

All the buttons shown are from a huge vintage find at an Estate Sale.

The flowers I had used on a prior project that was destroyed by my friends dog however the flowers you see are the ones I managed to salvage.

You can see I also added two paper doily hearts that I was lucky enough to find at another estate sale.  I know they aren't vintage but it was fun finding them anyway.  I added lace around the border of the frame to make it look more like looking through a window into a sewing room.

I also took three old vintage buttons to make the magnets but you guessed it - I forgot to take photos of those but will add them to my blog post.  My biggest challenge was getting some decent photos - the weather has been horrible as well as the lighting.  I  think it's time to get my portable light box created so I can shoot photos inside (I really like using natural light).

I hope you are inspired by the design teams projects to enter the challenge this week and it is Anything Goes - as long as you recycle something.  I also hope you will visit their blogs.  I can't wait to see what you have created.   Here's the link to the challenge blog:

Update:

I have also decided I am just going to use this as a decorative piece in my craft room rather than a magnetic board when Mark and I get our own place.

I am entering this into the following challenges:

Cinderella goes Camo

Hello my dear sweet friends -

I hope this finds you doing well.  It's been a while since I have been able to post and yet I have been able to get quite a few loose ends tied up.  I ended up making a quick trip to California to get the rest of personal stuff out of storage.  I am no longer scattered across three states and I can't even begin to express how wonderful that feels.  It will take me some time to get all my craft stuff set up and organized again but it looks like I will be able to really get on the ground running again.  It was a group effort and my sisters and brother in law were amazing and so incredibly helpful.

A few days before the trip I received a phone call (out of the blue) from a dear friend I worked with at the Police Department in California 20 years ago.  It was great hearing from him and we have been having fun getting caught up on things. My my, so many new and exciting changes.  I am still working on getting my health back on track and doctors say I a…

You are Mer-Mazing!!!

Happy Tuesday Sweet Friends
I hope you are having a fabulous day!!  And I am really hopeful it's not overly hot where you are.  It's suppose to be 114 degrees here today and I am NOT looking forward to that.   What I am looking forward to is sharing my newest creation using this absolutely amazing image by Sherri Baldy.  She was so much fun to color and the background was really fun to create as well.  I just love her - she looks like she's just chillin' and enjoying her surroundings.  It's kind of magical and I would love to be there with her.

I used Copics to color her and the colors I used are:
B00, 02, 04, 05, 12, 14 (Background and her Eyes) E000, 00 11, 31, 33, 35   (Skin and Sand). RV02, 04, 21, 23 (Water Background) V01, 05, 06, 09  (Mermaid tail, top, flowers, background and seaweed) YG21, 23, 25   (Water Background) YR21, 23, 25 (Hair)
I hope she brings you a smile.  Here's the link to her in Sherri's Etsy Shop: Sherri Baldy on Etsy - Image 661 Here's the lin…
