Valentine Altered Spoolie

Hello dear sweet friends -

It's a rainy Sunday here in Vancouver, WA and I just want to crawl under the covers and snuggle with Max for a while and enjoy the peace and quiet.  What about you - how are things at home?

As I mentioned in my post yesterday I have a fun project to share with you today and its actually the first one I have made.  I have admired all the gorgeous altered spools on Pinterest and have been wanting to jump into the deep end and make one for quite some time now.  I have joined a swap group called "Altered Paper Swaps" and one of the swaps was an altered spoolie.  So into the deep end I jumped and it was so much fun - a little challenging to get started but once I did things just took on a life of their own.  This particular swap had a Valentine's Day theme which was extra fun because I was able to use some pink in my creation.

So here it is - my first altered spoolie.  As you can see there is a lot of pink but what I also love about this is the image I used around the spool is cut from a vintage Paris newspaper from 1942.  It was so fragile but I just had to use that image (and of course I wanted to keep it).  I painted the spool and then wrapped the newspaper print around it.  I took some narrow white scalloped lace with gold trim to cover the bottom and make a small skirt of sorts for the base of the spool.  I added two rows of small white pearls around the top and the bottom of it.  I added another row of small pink rhinestones around the top of the spool and around the pink heart to help hold the heart in place.  I did add a little bit of glue to the bottom of the heart before adding the row of rhinestones.  I added three decorative stick pins into the top of the heart just for fun.

It was really fun to make and I am trying to find some of the other photos I took of it so you can see the back side of it.  I will add the photo to this post once I find it.

Thanks so much for visiting me today and I am really curious if any of you have altered your own "SPOOLIE" yet?

With hugs and smiles

Laine
