Butterflies, 15 Minutes and a BIG GOOFY SAD MISTAKE

Hello my Dear Sweet Friends -

How are you doing this cloudy Wednesday (it is here anyway)??  Yay - it's also Hump Day!!  Maybe that's why my head is in the clouds (actually more often than not) - at least that's what my family always tells me.

First of - A little disclaimer before the journey begins:

I promise not to take you around the blog world in 90 days.  I also promise the word "SAD" in my post title is nothing serious or life challenging.

Disappointment in myself - YEP BIG TIME!!  So with patience in tow:

Have a seat, buckle up, and hold on because the journey starts now:

It all started a few days ago when I promised myself I would work on my 15 minute project for the Speed Craft Challenge.  So I gathered my supplies, took photos, set up my timer, pushed the start button and told myself to take a deep breath and "Go!!"

Forgot to take photo of my tote of Copics

Here's what I did:

01.  Covered large piece of recycled laminate with cardstock using Mod Podge.
02.  Ran over to paper trimmer to cut edges off butterflies image.
03.  Ran back to work area (carrying trimmed image).
04.  Used my fingers to work out the air bubbles from step 1.
05.  Cut off the excess edges of green cardstock.
06.  Colored  butterflies with my Copics (which took most of the time).
07.  Used more Mod Podge to glue butterfly image on top of green cardstock.
08.  Add "Diamond" Stickles for some bling on butterfly wings.
09.  As I began adding lace realized I added the above bling to early.
10.  Carefully added ruffled lace anyway along with a thin lace border on top of lace.

So this is how far I got in 14 minutes and 58 seconds.  Yep - 2 seconds to spare.

I had done it.  I had two seconds to spare and my project was complete.  Only problem was - I started thinking of other things I could still add to it.  So I added the thin lace border across the top.  Grabbed three of the flower pieces from the plastic bag and used a bling brad to hold them together.

And this is the finished project 5 minutes later.

By the way - this is now a completed refrigerator magnet.
This gorgeous image is from CS Designs.

I took more photos, began to write blog post and went to Speed Challenge to submit my entry.  It was then I discovered   ......................................

this is where things turn ugly, ugly and even more ugly ................... ..............................................

hold on...............

almost to the end....................  I saw these words (verbatim)

"Challenge 5 - Halloween and Winner/Top 3 announcement"

Did you catch that?  (Clue: HALLOWEEN)

My reaction:

1.  Are you kidding me?
2.  Oh my goodness - I already knew that but totally forgot.
3.  Poop - I really wanted to enter this challenge.
4.  Oh man - I am not in the mood to start all over again.
5.  I am not a quitter.
6.  Oh well, I can still blog about this project but I have to go back and re-write my post.
7.  I am not a quitter.
8.  And then it occurred to me:

I can still enter this challenge and this is why:

My challenge entry fits the Halloween theme perfectly and it makes total sense to me:

My Halloween Challenge entry is actually a "caterpillar dressed up in a butterfly costume".

I know, I know - its a stretch but I am going to stretch the rules and enter it anyway. And I do so not only because I can but most importantly its been a wonderful process.  I absolutely love doing this challenge.  And if I have time - I will do another project and actually follow the rules this time.

Thanks so stopping and I really hope you will check out this great blog challenge and spend 15 minutes creating your own challenge entry and submitting it to the Speed Challenge.  If you do, will you let me know about it?

With hugs and smiles
Laine

Fight Like A Girl - Pink Power

My blog candy giveaway is under post Challenge #35  Hello dear sweet friends -  I am taking a little detour today from my usual type of post to share something that is near and dear to my heart.  As you are already aware October is Breast Cancer Awareness month.  Well I want to do something to help spread the word about the importance of mammograms.  Believe it or not there are still a lot of women (and men) that we can reach together.   I am a breast cancer survivor and today September 18th  is my six year anniversary.   Six years ago I was driving to work listening to my favorite Christian radio station when there was an advertisement for the "Susan G. Komen 3 day/60 mile breast cancer awareness walk.  At that moment in my heart I knew without a doubt I needed to walk those 60 miles.  Now in all honesty - at the same time I was asking myself questions like - Why on earth do I feel so compelled to walk those 60 miles fo...
